The American Dental Association offers a series of recommendations to help people maintain good oral health throughout the course of their lives. This starts with a consistent daily oral hygiene routine founded on brushing twice and flossing once each day.

This will help remove food particles and plaque from your mouth before they can harden into tartar or promote tooth decay. This will also significantly reduce your chances of suffering from cavities and gum disease.

When brushing your teeth twice each day you should use a soft-bristled toothbrush and abrasive toothpaste with added fluoride. This will help remove bacterial matter from the faces of your teeth while maintaining the strength of your tooth enamel. Be sure to focus on brushing one tooth at a time in a circular motion and cleaning all applicable surfaces.

The ADA also recommends flossing once each day. Be sure to floss between each of your teeth, as well as behind your last molars, and along the gumline. Waxed dental floss might help you more easily work the floss into hard to reach places. The special coating makes it easier to slip the strand of floss into tight spaces without snapping it into your gums.

Attending your regular dental checkup with Drs. Param Gill and Lavanya Gill is also critical for maintaining clean teeth, healthy gums, and detecting any other oral health concerns.
