Halitosis, also known as bad breath, is a common oral health condition that occurs due to bacteria buildup in your mouth. These bacteria in your mouth, however, can often be caused by the foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits as well. In order to prevent bad breath, it is important to first understand what is causing the bad breath in the first place.

The most common causes of halitosis include your diet. If you’re eating any odor-causing foods such as garlic or onions, your mouth may be producing bad breath. However, it also could be a sign of poor oral hygiene as you’re not brushing and flossing your teeth on a daily basis and food debris is lingering in your mouth. This could be due to a buildup of plaque or other similar product.

If you’re not careful, bad habits in your life included vices such as smoking and chewing tobacco can immediately contribute to bad breath. Not only will these products damage your smile, but they can damage your physical health as well. Furthermore, bad breath may be a symptom of an underlying ailment within your mouth, such as gum disease or a toothache.

Be aware the halitosis, also known as bad breath, as it is an oral health condition that can arise due to underlying ailments deep within your body. Even though it’s not being produced in your mouth, liver problems, kidney malfunctions, respiratory tract infections and other illnesses within your body can often produce bad breath as a side effect.
