As you probably know, there are a few things you should do to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Similarly, you probably know that there are a few things you should have addressed by your dentist. For instance, you may need to have a cavity filled or may even need root canal therapy—but sometimes, a common procedure may not be enough.
Fortunately, you can usually rely on something like root canal therapy to protect your oral health. Typically, you’ll need root canal therapy to remove an infection in the center of your teeth. Luckily, root canal therapy has come a long way in recent years. In fact, most patients who have had a cavity filled and have had root canal therapy say the two are fairly comparable.
You see, you’ll typically need root canal surgery in order to address an infection in the center of your mouth. However, you may need root canal microsurgery if you have calcium deposits in the same area. These calcium deposits can lead to a number of problems, which you should naturally try to avoid—but there are other reasons that root canal microsurgery could be useful.
Similarly, an apicoectomy may be useful for diagnostic reasons—especially if you have persistent pain in a tooth. Similarly, you may need an apicoectomy if you’ve already had root canal therapy, but your infection returns.
